Concerning The Increase In Pricing For The MBTA

Message

Dear Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority,

I am writing to you today regarding my concerns about the price increase for the buses and the Paratransit System.

As you may be aware, some people in Macon get around using the bus system, such as those who do not have a car or can’t drive due to some circumstances. People with disabilities use Paratransit to get around to areas where the buses can’t drop them off, such as door-to-door, a doctor’s appointment, grocery stores, getting medication(s) to manage the condition(s) that a person with a disability might have, etc.

While I understand that inflation played a role in the decision to raise the prices, this will, unfortunately, have the most impact on people who use Paratransit to get around.

People with disabilities who use Paratransit will mostly feel impacted by the price increase, since it will increase to $3.50 (from $2.25), almost $4.00. This is the one-way Paratransit Fare. The round-trip fare, however, will have the most significant impact.

I do have a solution though. If I may be correct, I would like to see the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority expand to areas in Macon, such as the Western part of Macon, if I am correct regarding if the routes in question are not yet available. This is for the bus system though. If we expand the routes to include parts of Macon that is not where the system is, there might be more revenue coming to you guys from riders in those areas that haven’t been served before.

I would be happy to collaborate with you regarding my concerns. If you have any questions, please let me know as soon as possible by replying to this email, or by using my contact information, located in the signature.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Armando Vias
