A Letter To MARTA Customer Service (Visitor)

Information

Message

Dear MARTA,

My name is Armando, and I recently rode MARTA as a visitor to Atlanta on Saturday, August 31, 2024, during a convention that I was attending. I’m writing to you guys regarding my experience with riding MARTA for the first time, and what I would like to see improved as a person who is blind that will help other blind passengers in the long run.

First of all, I would like to give a shout-out to the kind staff member who helped me with the process of scanning my ticket and taking me to the train itself. I arrived at the Midtown MARTA station at around 11:30 AM Eastern Time. I used the MARTA Breeze app to scan my ticket.

The train ride was fun. I actually got it on video since I wanted to document my experience. I do feel bad for someone who lost an item/object that was rolling around on the floor of the train.

Here’s the improvements that I’d like to see as a visitor and also other passengers who live in Atlanta and the surrounding cities. To make it easier for people who are blind and/or low-vision to navigate the transit system, I would like to suggest partnering with AIRA. AIRA is a visual-interpreting service that helps people who are blind or have low vision complete tasks, such as booking a Lyft, reading printed materials, and so on. AIRA also partners with transit authorities, making public transportation more accessible for riders who are blind and/or low vision. For example, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority is an AIRA Access partner. If you partner with AIRA to provide more accessible options, riders who use AIRA’s services will not have to rely on MARTA staff or even ask a MARTA train operator to call dispatch to have someone wait at a station to assist them. AIRA’s trained agents will be able to help the riders navigate a MARTA station and to get on a specific train without having a rider get lost at a MARTA station. To learn more about partnering with AIRA to make your transit system more accessible, you can visit https://aira.io/partners.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reply to this email.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Armando vias
